Hello All-
I spent the last few hours reading the older letters, and I can’t even begin to describe the feeling of wonder and gratitude that is filling me! Finally. We are coming together! Perhaps it’s because of the computer: people from ALL over can meet and talk and compare and shed their collective pain and humiliation at the hands of the providers!! It’s finally provided us the means to share our stories on common ground, and it may yet be the tool that will pull us together as a single entity that can fight back! Right now I feel pretty damn happy!!

If you look through history, you find that most minority citizens who were tired of being treated as second class (or fifth or sixth class – as we often are…!) citizens, finally obtained their rights when they came together as a cohesive unit and FOUGHT BACK AS ONE. Are we beginning to do that here, perhaps? How wondrous that would be! I, for one, am tired to death of having to “worry” about who will find out that I am a methadone maintenance patient. After all, I certainly don’t give a shit who knows that I’m on Levoxyl replacement therapy! I’ve fought too hard and too long to reclaim my life from the streets of NYC to have to deal with facing a lifetime of prejudice and ignorance! To hell with that!!!

It is time for a change. It’s really ripe! Too many good people are being lost to the ravages of addiction – much more than at any other time in history. An effective program of recovering addicts with a determination to effect that change is available in NAMA, and in pages like this. I pray that this is the mustard seed that is going to become the tree whose roots will CHOKE all the politicians who’ve made our life MISERABLE for so long!!

Go right on ahead and use my name. I’m sick of standing in the shadows anyway.
