Hooboy what a year it has been already. Are we sure this still isn’t 2020?
Work is still rough, but I am settled in here at home and get a lot done. I’ve gone back into the office a few times, but honestly there are WAY too many distractions at work. I love my team, but when some folks want to visit and talk, I can’t help but feel like I’m being rude when I ask them to get to work because I’m trying to concentrate and don’t have time to chit-chat. :P
I’ve had both of my COVID shots (Pfizer) and am feeling fine. I got to see my folks for my birthday and have a sit down dinner with them. I also got to see my kid a few days before that and we shared some Japanese hibachi. Honestly, that’s the best present anyone could have given me: face time with loved ones and REAL HUGS. I’ve missed them so.
There’s been a lot that’s happened, but the summary is: a loved one cut me out of their life (their loss), I broke up with my dude, I started 4 new side projects, and for a short time had a side gig that paid in food, which was REALLY nice. :3
Oh! And I had to rebuild my Plex server recently. Not fun. I found out the hard way that my backups were not working (lesson learned!). I found that my library database had corrupted at some point, no telling when. I tried to fix things using my SQLite dev tools, but alas, it gave up the ghost. Thankfully I didn’t have to reset the whole machine, just deleted the Plex data, then uninstalled the media server and player. Reinstalled then ran setup as if it were a brand new server. Re-adding and re-organizing all of my media took ages (a day), and the only real data I lost was what I had watched (which doesn’t matter honestly) and a handful of playlists I had setup. I’m in the process of recreating those now, the movie ones were easy. The music ones I’ll have to recreate by hand because for whatever reason, Plex doesn’t have a way to natively import playlist files. (bleh) Thankfully I had those backed up.
I also still have a stack of movies that still need to be converted and copied onto my drive, but that will get done eventually. I’ve granted access to my kid and a couple friends from work who also have Plex servers. I have another friend who is thinking of setting up a Plex server, so I offered to add him to mine to see what it’s like. I’m hoping he likes it … if so, it’d be yet another convert from iTunes! :D
I haven’t really been in the mood for gaming lately, so I’ve done so little in Cyberpunk 2077 and Guild Wars 2. I did login and do some PVPing this past weekend, so that was fun. Just wish I had more time during the week, but honestly, after I log out of work, I’m mentally and emotionally drained most days. Worse if people are being shitty to me (which happens more often than I’d like). I really need a new job, it’s blatantly obvious that this one is going nowhere, and actions stopped backing up promises ages ago. I busted my ass for this company for so long, and have felt unappreciated for so long. But it is what it is … as long as I keep to a very strict budget, I’m able to keep the bills paid, and I know there’s folks out there who have it so much worse than I do. Sometimes I feel guilty even complaining.
Oh well, at least I can watch all my goodies on Plex now. I’ve cancelled nearly every streaming service (gotta keep that anime!), and that certainly helps. I have a ‘happy’ list of movies for when I’m feeling down. :)
Trying to stay flexible (or Plexible HAH!) and positive. Hope y’all are having a good week!
