2020 has almost drawn to a close. I keep telling myself that whatever may follow has GOT to be better. Right?

I’m sitting here planning server patching for a new patch management service at work. Working a few maintenance tickets in between user tickets. Thankfully it’s been light so far today, so I’m hoping to get to the backlog that has been building up all year.

Tomorrow I will drive by to see my folks to drop off gifts for them, and for my brother and his family. We won’t be having family Christmas for obvious reasons. I’ve been sick with sinus issues repeatedly, and none of us want to put Mother’s health at risk either. My father wanted to have a full house, to which my mother and I berated him until he caved. I feel bad for him because he really REALLY wants to see all of us together, but that’s just a horrible idea.

I was recounting to someone on Discord the other night how many folks that I know who’ve tested positive for COVID. Many of them had symptoms, a handful were sick enough to need hospitalization. And a couple of whom later died. This shit scares me. I really do hope y’all are staying safe and taking recommended precautions.

I’ve had all my Christmas shopping done for at least a couple of weeks. I think I did pretty well for everyone. My kiddo especially, who has really gotten into mythology in the last year or so, particularly Norse; and as you might imagine, I was over the moon giddy as I shopped for books on Viking history, reading runes, and the like. I took the liberty of tossing in a personal fave of mine: Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology. I pre-ordered it when it was first announced and LOVE IT! Almost all Christmas presents have been delivered and well received so far. I’m a happy mom because I feel like I did really well. :) (and also because it’s yet another shared interest … kid’s got good taste!)

After work today I am finishing up gift wrapping/bagging and tomorrow I will sleep and play video games until time to go see my folks, then pick up some food (Waffle House because Mother made it clear that she is “NOT COOKING!” /sadpanda), then video game some more until I pass out. Sounds like a good plan to me.

The weather is supposed to get nasty here. I’m hoping it’s better wherever you are. If not, hunker down, and stay safe.
