I had to take Hobie to the vet today. She has been overdue for a checkup for a while, and I had suspected that she had another urinary tract infection. I think it only took me 30 minutes to wrestle her into the pet carrier this time — new record! :P
We get to Dr. Allen’s and there were a few animals in the waiting room already. There was a big beautiful chocolate lab, a couple of cats, and a miniature schnauzer. Since Hobie’s a little anti-social (read: aggressive) towards other cats and dogs, I decided it was best to keep her in her carrier until we were shown to the exam room. I signed in and was handed some forms to fill out; while doing this, Hobie decided to serenade the room with her most pitiful yowls and cries. I swear, everyone stared at me like I was torturing her or anything. I looked up and said “She’s not happy, and she’s letting me know this.”
After I had filled out the paperwork needed, I had sat down in my seat beside Hobie, and the lab who kept sniffing in our direction got just a little too close to Hobie’s carrier. The next thing I know a deep menacing growl came from the carrier and the whole thing moved forward a couple of inches. The dog yelped and jumped backwards about 2 feet.
Like I said … she’s “anti-social.” Heh.
Anyways, we finally got into the exam room and after getting someone to hold Hobie down — she’s a squirmer! — Dr. Allen looked at her and ran a few tests and spoke with me about some concerns I had regarding her health and her age. (she’s 18) The tests showed that she did indeed have another urinary tract infection, and was prescribed some special food and antibiotics.
Oh boy, time to wrestle her BACK into the carrier! For an old cat, she has a *LOT* of fight left in her. The vet techs had a chuckle at my expense — or rather, my arms’ expense — noticing the scratches up and down both arms from holding Hobie. :???:
When we got back to the house I had to take one of my allergy meds. Just being in the vet for a little over an hour was causing another attack. Once the meds kicked in, I wasn’t good for much and have spent most of the day sleeping. (Damn the allergies!)
Oh well, at least Hobie seems to have forgiven me. She’s back up on my side of the bed and is blinking at me in her usual “I’m so cute and you know it” way.
