Driving home from Oneonta, I contemplated all of the many things for which I am thankful. I’m sure I’ll leave out many, but these are a few that have been in the forefront of my mind lately …
I am thankful for my family and friends; those whom I love, and who have been there for me when I’ve needed it most. I am thankful for those who have stood by me through thick and thin, and put up with my bullshit. I’m continually fighting my way out of that dark place, and even though I was stupid enough to try, I could not have done it alone. I am thankful for my daughter, who loves me no matter what. I am thankful to have had the privilege of watching her grow up into the fantastically awesome young lady that she is today.
I am thankful for my job; because let’s be honest, not being able to pay the bills or buy food for so long sucked ass. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and am praying that it is not an oncoming train! Hehe. I am thankful to have a roof over my head, a car that runs, and the freedoms that I enjoy every day. I am thankful for my health; I’ve been better, but I’ve also been a lot worse. I’ll take this over that ‘worse’ any day.
There are so many little things I could go on and name, but those are the biggest. I’m a work in progress, still … but I’m getting better all the time.
I hope y’all have a very Happy Thanksgiving out there.
This Belle Rocks
I try to always be thankful for the little things, even on the days when it seems like I’m at rock bottom. Because there’s always another rock bottom under any rock bottom, and things can always, always be worse. It doesn’t lessen the pain we sometimes feel, but at least recognizing that there is much to be thankful for can help put things into perspective.
