I’m sitting in one of my Dreamweaver classes and was browsing Google news during one of the breaks, and ran across this story:
Foods Tastes Better With McDonald’s Logo, Kids Say
Most 3- and 5-year-olds who taste-tested a variety of foods said they preferred the ones in the McDonald’s wrapper — even though the foods were exactly the same, a new study finds.
The study suggests that, like adults, young children are highly influenced by branding, experts say.“This study demonstrates simply and elegantly that advertising literally brainwashes young children into a baseless preference for certain food products,” said Dr. David Katz, the director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Conn.
“Children, it seems, literally do judge a food by its cover. And they prefer the cover they know,” said Katz, who was not involved in the research.

Uh … DUUUUUUUH! I could have told you that much for free!
Honestly, I’m in the WRONG field if people are paid real money to study this sort of crap! :???:

I can see it now in a court of law:
“Did you know that it’s been documented, that little kids are brainwashed into preferring brand names over non-brand names?”
“No!, how do you know this? Was there a formal study using actual participants?”
“Newpz! Nicki told me!”
Seriously though, everyone does knows this. Even when I was little, I always knew I wanted the Nike’s while my mom was trying to give me the Sike’s. (Kmart version)

But I’d never take up smoking just because it had a cartoon camel on it!

Oh, but if you offer it for free, then what is the use of my ridiculously expensive marketing piece of paper degree? Please don’t!
Nicki
@SD: LOL, true. I can remember when Adidas were hot, my mom did the kmart thing too. :P
@Gloria: I’m sure there are much better and more worthwhile things to study. ;)
