Do you ever just wander aimlessly around a website? I did that earlier today and learned something: 3M (the “sticky notes” people) make littman stethoscopes.
Ok, not the most exciting discovery, I know, but was kind of neat I thought. That’s not exactly something that you’d think of that company making! Or, I didn’t anyways.
And apparently theirs are supposed to be pretty high-end as far as stethoscopes go (not that I’d know a whole hell of a lot about them) … I was reading up on the “Model 3000” and this is what the ad says:
“Don’t miss the sounds you need to hear! Amplify heart, lung, and other body sounds while reducing distracting ambient noise with the Littmann Model 3000. Ergonomic and Versatile – The chest piece is ergonomically designed for easy, one-hand manipulation. Convenient single-button control allows volume and frequency mode adjustments with just one finger. The convex shape of the diaphragm and very small size of the internal sensor allow the Model 3000 to be used on adult, pediatric and infant patients, making it a truly universal stethoscope.”
I had to admit that I was kind of impressed … there was a flash video and downloadable brochure and all kinds of in-depth information for this thing. I guess if you’re in the health care profession, this would be all up in your bag.

I used a Littman all through school and didn’t know it was a 3M product. It was definitely a good one.
