Yesterday Jim went to see his (our) doctor — yes, we see the same doctor. He mentioned to her that he was concerned because my headaches were increasing in frequency and intensity (and I had not indicated this to her … naughty me). Doc wanted to see me “right away.” All happy about it, Jim then calls me to tell me what he did. LOL!
*makes mental note to beat him later*
So I go to the doctor today. I sign in and wait to be called. A nurse calls me in and asks what problems I was having, etc. so I told her about how the Topamax didn’t seem to be working and that I was having to double up on my Axert to get rid of headaches. She asked about any weird side effects so I mentioned that Topamax did change my taste and I was able to FINALLY give up soda. So she takes my blood pressure (normal), temperature (normal), and weighs me … as I step down she says, “Hm, you’ve lost some more weight.” I muttered, “Yeah right.” She showed me my chart and I almost blurted out, “HOLY SHIT!”
I’ve lost 10 pounds since going on the Topamax (and subsequently giving up soft drinks!).
GO ME! I knew I had been doing pretty well for myself but DAMN! LOL
So anyways, back to the story … my doc comes in. She fusses because I didn’t tell her my headaches weren’t getting better. She fusses because I lost more weight (I silently clap and cheer!). She fusses about having to hear about it from Jim rather than from me. (tattle tale!) She puts me Amitriptyline … I can’t pronounce it, but its list of drug interaction warnings, side effects, etc. goes on for 3 pages! :???: So I will take my first dose tonight and if all goes well it will solve my sleeping AND headache problems at the same time (apparently one leads to the other).
So here goes nothing … cross your fingers!
John
It will make you sleepy if you get still for a little while. It also tends to “mellow” you out just a wee bit. Not zombiefied or anything like that. If your ears start ringing quit taking it and call the Doc. I learned a lot about it when I was a pharmacy tech.

Finally it gets through to you :-) *Hugs*
Btw, if you lose any more, could you FedEx what you lose to me? I need to gain 15lbs back of the 20 I’ve lost.
DualDenz
they’ve made massive progress when it comes to fighting migraines, why the f*ck can’t they come up with something that will actually do the job without weird side-effects?
doesn’t it piss you off knowing there’s been so much progress yet they can’t seem to figure out what it is you need?

Good to know! I feel a little groggy, but slept “ok” … woke up on and off all night but luckily went back to sleep pretty quickly. Will keep the ear ringing thing in mind. Thanks for the info!

LOL, goober. ;)

Hahaha, will do. Though I’m proud to say that I’m not as far off my “ideal weight” as I thought I was … only have a few vanity pounds and that will come with toning/shaping. (Hooray for pilates!) So if I keep up the exercise and move up the weight training a bit I’ll be right where I want to be. (Plus I had to take into consideration that my “ideal weight” initially was pretty unrealistic as the last time I weighed that little, my proportions were a bit different … as Jim says, at least now I’m more “rounded out” … whatever the fuck that means, LOL!)

Indeed! Though this stuff apparently has been around for a while and used to be prescribed in VERY large doses for depression and anxiety. *shrug* Go figure.
At this point, I don’t care what it is as long as it cures me…
“doesn’t it piss you off knowing there’s been so much progress yet they can’t seem to figure out what it is you need?”
Oh you bet it does! I know for a fact that there are much better medicines being tested and tried, but I won’t be able to get my grubbly paws on them for years because of all the restrictions in place. (understandably, because they want to make sure the meds are safe to take!)
Comparing what I’m taking now to what I took years ago when I first started having migraines … it’s a world of difference.
