I must say, working for an EDU (for a whole 2 days even!) has been an eye-opening experience. Very different than any of my previous employers! :)
I was chatting with my boss for a few minutes yesterday afternoon and someone from another department commented on my desktop wallpaper (I have a dual monitor setup, but didn’t have any decent walls to use so I went with something familiar). He says, “Oh, I see you’re a heretic.”
Er … wha?
“You know, the Firefox stuff … ” I laughed and told him that yeah, I’m a little biased. ;) Did I mention this is primarily a Microsoft environment? LOL! So I’ve taken a few jabs over my browser preferences, but so far everything is cool. I’ve discovered that Visual Studio has advanced VASTLY since I last used it, and am coming to like it a bit more. (But give me my Dreamweaver any day of the week!) One of the ASP/.NET gurus also speaks Spanish and is determined to get me to use it verbally more often. (Apparently I am more out of practice than I thought, LOL!)
My co-workers are varied, but it’s funny how well everyone “meshes” together. My boss was talking to me yesterday after my first meeting and starts off a sentence with, “Don’t take this the wrong way … you’re a geek …”
LOL! As if I didn’t already know. I’m quite proud to say that’s a compliment IMO.
All in all, I am definitely loving this place and feel that settling in is going smoothly. Jim’s been giving me a bit of ribbing over the last week or so over the amount of soda I’ve been drinking lately, and I’m planning on taking some of my tea and water bottles to work with me so I’ll have more to drink — and so I’ll stay away from the machines with the HUGE bottles of Mtn Dew! *grin*
Mmmmmm, sweet nectar of the gods …
It’s funny, I saw a lady on my floor with the same water bottle filter that I got for Jessie and I was tempted to ask her, “Oh, you shop at CostCo too?” hehehe :)
