Ok, the upgrade is *finally* done … for this blog, LOL. It took me about 2-2 1/2 hours to upgrade this beast. Of course, this included cleaning out my databases, deleting old files no longer in use, etc. I updated all of my plugins — or rather, TRIED. A couple have been discontinued (much to my dismay), a couple didn’t work after upgrading, one is listed as being updated, but when I downloaded the zip is empty. :P THEN there is my site unavailable plugin which refuses to work with 2.1 (despite the author saying that it works with 2.x systems and 2.1/mu).
ARGH! I think I haven’t had an upgrade this extensive since I upgraded to WP 1.2 “way back when” …
Oh well, at least it’s done … or done enough for now. I still have a few plugins that I need to replace, but at least 99% of everything is up and running. I still need to re-organize my links — in fact, I’ll probably re-code all of that (I’m using a template for that page).
Of course, I still have my recipes site to do as well as several hobby sites … *groan*
I can’t imagine how people that have 50-60 WP installs do this … :P
Rick
Yeah, I’m not a big fan of this upgrade, either.
Nicki
Well, it wouldn’t have been as bad if I hadn’t modified so many WP files. LOL … luckily most of my other installs aren’t as customized as my personal blog, but it was annoying about the plugins. Luckily, by late last night, the few I had problems with had been updated and new versions released.
What about yours, Rick? Are you still having problems with My Link Order?
Mara
Another reason why I stay with LiveJournal, for all my blogging needs :)
Why would anyone have 50-60 WP installs?
Rick
Yep, still having problems with My Link Order. I’m thinking I should back everything up and start over just to make sure I’m not doing something wrong.
Nicki
“Why would anyone have 50-60 WP installs?”
People who host blogs for others maybe? *shrug* I dunno, I didn’t ask, but there was a guy who posted on the WP forums the other night who had 68 installs!
If he’s hosting, he should look into WP-MU (multi-user).
Rick: Is it generating an error log file on your server? Is the author being any help?
I hate that you’re having probs. :(
Mara
There seems to be a trend going where some web designers throw together a WP install and call it “a website.” It’s a BLOG, it’s BLOGGING software.
Rick
The author has helped out quite a bit, but we still haven’t been able to locate the source of the problem.
Nicki
LOL Mara … well, I like to think that if there is content OTHER than just the blog entries, then it’s a website … like mine. :D
Rick – I’m sorry to hear that :(
Mara
Yes, silly girl :)
I’m talking about when that’s ALL there is, a WordPress blog. Which is fine, if that’s all you need/are looking for. When I have a problem with it is that it’s changing consumer views of what a website is.
Case in point: I got a job offer a while back. A company wanted “a Word Press website.” Sounded to me what they were looking for is a CMS so they could add content themselves. They didn’t realize a website is one thing and a blog is something different, which is most often a part *of* a website.
And yes, I’m ranting again :)
Nicki
Rant away. That’s what friends are for. :D
