I have been up since 3am. Remember when we had to take my cat by the vet last week?
EDIT: Now that I think about it, I don’t think I blogged it. Hobie had been in immense pain and would not eat. Worse, she was very lethargic, slept only downstairs and on the floor — something she NEVER did. My cat is spoiled and has always slept either with me, or somewhere closeby. Anyways, it turns out she had a few teeth that had abscessed and/or gotten infected. They pulled 3 teeth, pumped her full of drugs and sent her home with some food additive to help her kidneys.
Well, Monday she started acting lethargic and wouldn’t move about much. Tuesday night she started howling again, as if she were in pain. I called the vet yesterday and they had me drop her off this morning. I stayed for a short bit this morning and watched a poor tech (read: VICTIM) try to give Hobie fluids and that cat screamed and howled and convulsed and twisted about as if she were possessed by Satan himself!
The tech gave up on the fluids and spoke with me a bit about Hobie’s symptoms. She had another infection, this time in her sinuses and lungs … her current medicine wasn’t doing any good. It wasn’t looking good … from the way things were sounding, we were going to have to put her down this afternoon.
I had to leave the vet and go home to get ready for work. I cried all the way home. I cried all the way to work. I’ve sat here at my desk and cried off and on for most of the morning.
The vet just called: GOOD NEWS! Dr. Allen recommended we switch her medicine — something stronger, a bit of a “kill all” type of antibiotic. They’ll give her some more pain medication. The catch is that I’ll have to take her by there once a week so they can give her fluids (via IV). There’s no way I could do that by myself, it would improve Hobie’s quality of life allowing her to enjoy it more, and it’s fairly cheap so I don’t mind the maintenance.
I really feel bad for the poor people at the vet … my cat is a bit of a bad patient. I was told that it takes a couple of people to hold her down for IVs, and she got so mad that she *ahem* relieved herself of every bodily substance at her disposal — everywhere. *sighs and shakes head* And apparently she’s got a lot of fight left in her than I give her credit (especially for an 18 year old!) — the vet tech told me that it took 3 people to hold her down and she bit the vet.
Yep, that’s my cat — the Hellion. :)
Seriously! I have a Christmas ornament that my mother gave me years ago of a Ragdoll (cats that look a lot like Hobie) with horns, tail and pitchfork. LOL
So, “Psycho Kitty” is coming home this afternoon and I’m sure will be all too thrilled.
She won’t like the weekly trips, but she’ll be happier and healthier, and that to me is the most important thing.

YAY FOR HOBIE!!!
