I had meant to mention this last week, but forgot until someone asked me about it today: my little Mexican restaurant closed.
It was called Don Pepe’s, located beside the First American bank right off of Hwy 31 in Alabaster. It was open week before last, and last week when we swung by for our usual/weekly lunch, it was cleaned out with auction signs all over the place.
Damn, wish I had known … I would’ve asked for their salsa recipes … they had the BEST damned salsa I have ever had in my life!!!!
Last week we went to the new Habanero’s in the new shopping center by Walmart, but it just wasn’t the same. Their chicken isn’t near as tasty, and their salsa looks and tastes like pureed tomatoes and salt. :?
Plus, I feel bad for the guys who worked at Don Pepe’s … Jim and I had always met some of our coworkers over there every week for over 2 years and had never once had bad service of any kind! The waitstaff were always attentive and friendly (even if a few of them spoke little English, they always made an effort!), and the manager always made a point of stopping by to see us when we were there.
It was my favorite restaurant — ever. :(
Oh well, now I gotta find another place that makes perfect salsa and the ultimate chimichanga.
