Yesterday’s was one of the most stressful Alabama games I have watched in a long time! But the Tide managed to pull it off with a 6-3 win over the 17th ranked Tennessee Volunteers.
For the second week in a row, the win rested on the shoulders of kicker Jamie Christensen. It had been tied 0-0 for over half the game until Christensen nailed a 33-yarder at the end of the 3rd. Just over 3 minutes into the 4th, Tennessee answered with their 32-yard field goal to tie it up. With 13 seconds left on the clock, Christensen nailed a 34-yard field goal to give the Tide the win.
Alabama is now 5-0 in the Southeastern Conference for the first time since 1994. Tennessee ruined our 7-0 streak in ’96 with a 20-13 win in Knoxville. The Vols have won 9 out of the last 10 meetings. In fact Alabama’s last win over Tennessee in Tuscaloosa came by an 18-6 score in 1930! So it was about time we beat their ass!
This was the hardest game to watch. Today my back and arms are killing me because I sat tensed up for nearly the whole damned game!
A funny tidbit I snagged from The Birmingham News: “I met some of the Secret Service men. I’m still trying to find out if they have any eligibility left.” Mike Shula when asked about the distractions caused by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit.
LOL! That’s a keeper.
Al.com has some great game pictures over in their Photo Gallery section.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
