I keep saying this, and I mean it every time I say it: “I’ve been meaning to post…”
I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of my favorite moms out there!
And I also want to extend an extra-special wish to Jason and Dana Lisle, who are expecting their firstborn. Congrats you guys!! *Big Hugs!*
I pulled a geektrip Friday. Jim and I had stopped by the Wally-World in Hoover on the way home from work Friday. He was looking for one of the new Star Wars toys (he does collectibles and has a massive Star Wars collection), and I needed a new pair of sneakers, so I went with him … and fell in love. It’s an interactive Yoda. He talks, tells stories, plays trivia games, and he’s ADORABLE! I couldn’t resist his Jedi mind tricks, I just *had* to take him home with me. I choose a geek toy over shoes — what is wrong with me!?!? LOL
Oh well, he’s worth it.
We’ve had a really busy weekend. I’m feeling a little guilty because I was a bad girl and pigged out all weekend and didn’t go workout yesterday like I’ve been doing.
Saturday night we met my folks and my brother at Firebird Rocky Mountain Grill in Hoover. A really nice place, I was impressed by both the atmosphere and the food. I had some smoked chicken, garlic potatoes, and a mountain-sized peanut butter and chocolate cake. (Oh my God, I about died when I saw how big that thing was!)
We got home last night just in time to catch the end of the race, so Jim was a happy camper … his guy finished 2nd. I have no idea who won or who else placed. I don’t care for it as much as he does, and I never need to watch the games, I just listen for him to either cheer or curse, LOL! (I like Jr. and he likes Gordon)
Today’s been OK for the most part. I was a bit down earlier. You see, last year Jessie had gone all out for Mother’s day and made me a card and gift. This year she didn’t do anything … didn’t even wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. It’s no big deal, she’s a kid and we’ve had a busy past few weeks so I wasn’t going to make a big thing of it. But what bothered me was that when I asked if I could have a Mother’s Day hug, she told me “No, you’re not my Mommy” and walked off.
That stung. I know she doesn’t understand about the whole thing about Jim and his ex, and I know that’s “HER” talking and not Jessie, but it still hurt. Last year I know it really upset her mother that I got a gift too, and I know that she is constantly reminding Jessie that I am not her mother, that SHE is. Jim and I spoke about it, and he talked to her a bit. I think he let her know that what she said hurt my feelings, ’cause she came back later this afternoon and apologized and hugged me.
I can’t blame her, she doesn’t understand and she’s caught in the middle of everything. I know it will only get worse as she gets older. Her mother uses her as a bargaining chip, and I fear that if she ever feels that she’s lost her leverage, she’ll abandon Jessie. In Jessie’s eyes, her mother can do no wrong … and it would break her heart if her mother does something like that.
Well, moving on … we went to see Jim’s mother. She’s spent the last few weeks recovering from her surgery and still can’t eat solid food. To treat her, we took her to a local Chinese restaurant near her house in Fultondale. She’s able to eat soups and really soft stuff, so we loaded up on hot ‘n sour and egg dropp soup, fried crab claws, and crab rangoons. I love this place, they have the most awesome sesame chicken … sweet and spicy!
We dropped by CompUseless on the way home. Jim’s video card was starting to crap out on him and needed a new one. Jessie and I browsed all the XBox games and played a few demos. She quickly became attached to the newest SpongeBob game, so I reminded her that she has a birthday coming up soon and if she were good, “someone” could convince Daddy that she needed a new game. *grins*
I’m pooped, and my bad knee has been giving me fits lately so I’m gonna veg out for the rest of the night. We bought National Treasure Friday, and was pleasantly surprised by how cute it was! I was very pleased. I was cleaning out an old box of VHS tapes yesterday and found my copy of Legend, so I think I’m going to curl up with that. I’m not much of a Tom Cruise fan, but this is my favorite of his movies. And it has Tim Curry in it as the freakin’ Lord of Darkness! :)
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I brought over half of the mountain of chocolate and peanutbutter home with me last night … I think I hear it calling me …
Jason
Oh gosh… I’m blushing! Thanks dear.
And… yes, I am a Jedi. And I already have my tickets. :-)

LOL, I am not surprised. ;) Jim and I are going to go that evening after work (only because our boss wouldn’t let us have half a day off that day … he knows we’re sci-fi geeks and that we wanted to leave work at lunch to go ‘matinee’ it, LOL!!), most likely at the new theater in Alabaster. I’m excited! :D
