Introspection. noun. – the contemplation of your own thoughts and desires and conduct.
I’ve done a lot of thinking lately … yeah, I’m a thinker. I think and reflect on nearly everything … and I have a bad habit of dwelling on the past. I look around, examine my life, scrutinize the What If‘s.
Recently I began to closely examine my websites, trying to decide where to take them next. This site is always my primary because it is my namesake. I had often wanted to register DollfaceProductions.com or something similar. 1.) Because it always sounded so business-like … and 2.) it is a name/phrase I have used in my works and publishings almost as long as I have called myself Nitallica. I was nicknamed Dollface by someone very dear to me. I think I liked it because of the person that he was, and the endearing feeling I felt when he called me that.
Only one other person has ever made me feel that way, and I am with him today. (It will be officially 2 years next week, in fact!)
But I digress … I began to think about the name Nitallica. I of course have Nitallica.org and .net, but will most likely let .net run out next month because the hosting company’s transferral rates alone are 5 times the domain cost of my other sites. I lost Nitallica.com years ago to a young man in Germany with a hardon for my name. I did not own the domain, it was given to me by a friend, but when it came time to transfer the domain to my registrar, it was denied and the domain expired before I could get it renewed. Upon the new owner’s registration, I offered to pay for it, and we made a deal … he however backed out of it two weeks later saying that he thought my name was cool and he wanted to keep it.
I guess I could come up with a new domain name … after all, there’s really nothing holding me to this one except memories. My site first started out on Geocities — long before it merged with Yahoo! My account was cancelled due to excessive bandwidth — I had a popular site, and was forced to go elsewhere.
Various other freehosts later, I finally settled on getting a “real” (read: actually pay for it) host, so I settled with Pair after hearing very high recommendations from a good friend of mine. (Speaking of which: Sam, you coonass, email me sometime!) However, all of my other hobby sites are now hosted with Lunarpages, and I will be moving this domain over in December when my contract with Pair expires.
I’m not unhappy with Pair or anything, Lunarpages has a much better offer and it’s cheaper. Also, PHP/CGI comes standard with their entry-level accounts, so I’ll be able to convert everything to PHP … which is something I’ve been dying to do. I’m not great at it, but can easily muss up anything pre-written. I figure the best way for me to learn would be to totally screw up my site, then try to fix it! *grin*
