The past few weeks have been really busy, I’ve had little time to stop to catch my breath, much less do anything else. We have spent the last few weeks working on a multimedia project for work. Jim has set up a multimedia server in our living room, complete with surround sound speakers all over the room. It was wicked watching The Last Samurai, it sounded like thunderstorms were coming out of my hearth and fireplace, LOL!
We spent part of the day yesterday at my grandmother’s house near Birmingham. She was having a family reunion, so all of the family on my mother’s side were there. Jessie loved it because there were so many grandkids and great-grandkids around her age, so she had many playmates and constant entertainment. :) I saw a lot of relatives I haven’t seen since I was a kid, met some I had heard about for many years but never met. Saw a few that I wished were of no relation to me, but oh well, what can you do … you can’t pick your relatives.
After we left Grandma’s house, we had to go to Jessie’s school for her orientation. It wasn’t too bad, we sat and listened to a short speech, met the new teachers, and had a tour around the school. We got to meet Jessie’s teacher, and I liked her at once. She seemed very nice, and seemed the type who knew how to handle kids — which made me feel a lot better. Jessie doesn’t have the greatest social skills, and is improving, but she needs to have someone look over her who won’t take guff from kids, or she’d walk right over them. (I should know! LOL)
Jessie started her first day of 1st grade today. I walked her into school this morning, because I had to help her carry all of her supplies into her classroom. I got to speak with her teacher again this morning, gave her mine and Jim’s work numbers in case she needed them. She assured me that she’s the type of teacher to contact a parent if she sees a consistent behavior problem in a child, rather than let it go on all year and the parent find out at year’s end. Jessie’s kindergarten teacher was very nice, a very sweet woman and a good teacher, but we didn’t find out about some of the stuff she was doing at school until year’s end. So again, I like her new teacher. :)
Of course, taking Jessie into school (rather than just dropping her off at the door like usual) and talking to her new teacher made me late for work. To be honest, I don’t care. My last supervisor was consistently late, and they let it go on for YEARS, and never said a word to him about it. I feel I can afford to be late once in a blue moon. Although I’m sure I got some disapproving looks because I wore shorts today. Oh well. :P
